Callaway, the famed Corvette tuning company, has revealed their 2016 spec GT3 car, the Corvette C7 GT3-R, which will replace their successful C6 based Callaway Z06.R GT3. Featuring a 600 horsepower 6.2L V8 and a six speed X-Trac sequential gearbox, the car’s first drive in anger is likely to take place in the 2016 ADAC GT Masters series. The car was unveiled on October 3, 2015 at the Hockenheimring.

Note the escape hatch on the roof, now required by the 2016 GT regulations on all new GT3 and GTE (GTLM) cars. I think this thing looks badass. Hope it ends up competing at the N24 or Spa 24.

Meant for EU GT3 runners only? Can a US-based team get a few and dance with the Pratt & Miller cars of Corvette Main, or will they be classed as GTD? Asian teams, too. Here’s hoping they aren’t expensive to run.

BTW, I approve this. The rear end, in particular. The fender cutouts look like afterburners.

I’m doubtful that US teams will be able to get the car, especially now that Cadillac has the ATS-V.R. Maybe there’s a gentleman’s agreement between GM/Pratt & Miller and Callaway. If they could, the car would compete in GTD since they’re GT3 cars.

I know that Asian customers have raced Z06.R GT3s, so there should be no issue with getting the C7 GT3-R.

Probably a carbon fiber intake for a fan surrounded by a fiberglass rear end. The C6.R had a vent there.
